Maha Khatib was the Director General of the Jordan River Foundation [JRF]. In seven years, Maha was able to transform JRF to become the most successful NGO in Jordan, with a portfolio of over 100 million dollars of development programs across Jordan. While JRF targeted underprivileged groups of all backgrounds, special focus was put on supporting women economically. Under her leadership, JRF helped thousands of women receive training, funding, and guidance to become economically
productive. These programs continue to be operational and sustainable, after 15 years, providing livelihoods not only for the beneficiary women but also for their dependents and communities. The financial independence the beneficiaries found led to social empowerment in the home and community. Furthermore, increased incomes resulted in better health and education opportunities for the families of these women. Maha’s support for women has extended, throughout her career, to educated women who were already in the workforce. At JRF and afterwards as Minister of Tourism and Antiquities and Chief Commissioner of the Investment Commission, Maha actively engaged in hiring, coaching, mentoring, and promoting female workers. For the entire female population of Jordan, Maha is a role model for both young women and men. She is particularly remembered by Jordanians for her hard work and uncompromising ethics, having proven in all her posts to be an adamant and outspoken fighter of corruption. She continues to be an opinion leader and a well-respected politician. Despite her stature, she never hesitates to lend support to fellow women seeking professional growth, advice and mentorship
